My Uncle and Auntie bought their first home in Altadena in 1972. They went on to raise a literal village there and they had “the house” we went to celebrate anything. Birthdays, funerals, pool parties, Tyson fights, etc. I almost drowned in their pool, but I also learned to swim there. My Uncle Leo has since passed and my 97 year old, Auntie Dottie, was still there until the AM hours of of 1/8/25 and had to be forced out the home she’d spent 53 years. By mid day it was confirmed that the house had burned to the ground, a total loss. 1 of 9,400+ that were taken by the winds of the Eaton Fire.

It’s really impossible to understand the loss of this community until you see it with your own eyes. Social media, phones and television doesn’t capture the scale of destruction. I went to witness it for myself and to do what I’m best at to help. The profits from the sales of the “Altadena Street Runners” will go towards the GoFundMe of my Auntie Dottie. This is just the start of where I can help and lend support, in the present. This is going to be a long journey to rebuild this community.
